Who we are
True North Training Group is built on the belief that capable, responsible citizens are the foundation of a strong community. Our training focuses on awareness, sound decision-making, and practical skills that carry beyond the range.
We’re here to help everyday people build real confidence, not just in what they can do, but in how they think and respond when it matters.
True North Training Group was founded by Randy Ark, a United States Marine Corps combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Serving as a radio operator and artillery fire coordinator, he operated in high-pressure environments where clear thinking and decisive action were critical.
Experiences like these shaped a deep understanding of how quickly situations can escalate and how important it is to be prepared, disciplined, and grounded under stress.
After his military service, Randy worked as a 911 dispatcher in Michigan, working closely with police, fire, and EMS personnel while gaining firsthand insight into how emergencies unfold in real time. As an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certified dispatcher, he was responsible for providing critical information and guidance during high-stress situations.
That experience reinforced the importance of awareness, communication, and sound decision-making in everyday life.
Today, as a firearms instructor and range safety officer, he brings that perspective into every class, focusing not just on skill, but on responsibility and judgment.

Our training is built around guidance, repetition, and clarity. We meet people where they are, whether they’ve never handled a firearm or are looking to build on existing skills, and walk them step by step through safe, effective techniques.
The goal isn’t just performance on the range. It’s building confidence through understanding, so students leave knowing not only what to do, but why it matters.
Training goes beyond mechanics. We cover the legal, ethical, and practical responsibilities that come with carrying and owning a firearm. From safe storage to use-of-force considerations, students gain a clear understanding of the decisions they may face.
Our focus is on helping people think clearly, act responsibly, and carry themselves with confidence in everyday life.
Our approach is grounded in faith, family, and personal responsibility. Guided by biblical principles and the teachings of Jesus Christ, we emphasize discipline, humility, and stewardship in both training and daily life.
We also hold a deep respect for the Constitution and the individual liberties it protects, believing that responsible citizens play a vital role in preserving those freedoms.
Being prepared is not just about training or equipment, it’s about character, mindset, and the responsibility to act with wisdom.
